GENERAL MANAGER
Organization
The Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association (MVCMA) is seeking a full-time, year-round General Manager. The MVCMA is a non-profit organization located in Oak Bluffs, MA, on Martha’s Vineyard.
The MVCMA, also known locally as “the Campground” is a religious, historical and residential community of over 300 privately-owned historic residential cottages on a 34 acre campus surrounding a central open-air Tabernacle built in 1879. The MVCMA is a National Historic Landmark. The mission of the MVCMA is “To perpetuate our religious and historical heritage, engaging all in education and spiritual growth in a welcoming faith community.”
During the Campground’s high season of July and August, the MVCMA holds religious services and runs programs and events several times a week. The Camp Meeting Association is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors that sets policy for the MVCMA, and its members also serve on committees that work closely with the General Manager in operating the Campground. The annual operating budget is approximately $1.3 million dollars, for which the revenue is mostly income from leases. The Camp Meeting has recently completed a significant fundraising cycle in conjunction with the restoration of the Tabernacle and is poised to institute regular fundraising programs.

Responsibilities
We are seeking a General Manager with the strategic, communications, general management, and community relations skills and experience needed to administer and improve our operations and advance our mission. The General Manager leads the Campground’s annual cycle of activities with fun and informative Summer programs, Fall budget preparations, Winter lease renewals and Spring preparation for the summer season ahead.
Year-round housing is available.
Reporting to the President, the General Manager will have overall responsibility for the implementation, administration, and management of all programs, services, systems and staffing.
Operations

Acts as the face of the organization in its dealings with leaseholders and residents. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with leaseholders. Addresses complaints and issues in a timely manner and effectively resolves conflicts. Acts as a liaison between leaseholders and the staff, MVCMA Board and committees as appropriate.

Oversees retail and rental operations in conjunction with appropriate committees.

Oversees staff in lease management, including lease renewals, collection and administration.

Oversees Buildings & Grounds staff to supervise maintenance and repair of association buildings and grounds, enforce MVCMA rules and policy with contractors and leaseholders, and ensure that authorized work is monitored.

Contracts for services for the organization. Maintains sound working relationships with contractors and vendors.

Maintains official records and documents, ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Ensures the legal integrity of MVCMA, including security for files, legal and historic documents, membership, and mailing lists.
Communication & Programs

Working with committees, maintains calendar of events and activities. Produces promotional material for the MVCMA.

Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the MVCMA.

Maintains and updates the MVCMA web page.

Publicizes the activities of the MVCMA, its programs and goals to members and the general community.
Staffing
-
Works with the personnel committee for the recruitment, employment and supervision, of personnel including staff comprised of majority seasonal employees in addition to the core year-round positions.

Develops and updates job descriptions and organizational chart in conjunction with the personnel committee.

Ensures regular ongoing staff communications and manages performance of paid staff members.
Board Support

Provides support for Board meetings and keeps the Board informed of the organization’s status. Attends Board meetings and special meetings.

Assists the Board in its development of current and long-term organizational goals.

Supports committees in the execution of organizational and financial plans.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field of religious, historical, and residential non-profits.
Finance
-
Works in concert with a bookkeeper and the Board Treasurer to oversee accounting functions, including those necessary for auditing, budgeting, financial analysis, capital asset management and payroll.

Leads the preparation of an annual operating budget with staff, committees, and board; ensures the organization operates within budget guidelines.
An undergraduate degree and a minimum of five years’ experience in a leadership role is required.

SUMMER THEOLOGICAL INTERN
The Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association is seeking a Summer Theological Intern to support our Spiritual Life programming in the 2025 season. This is a full-time paid position that includes housing.
The Intern will help us grow our Spiritual Life programming and also spend time on personal outreach to neighbors, strengthening the spiritual life of our community by connecting neighbors to neighbors. This is a challenging, rewarding position in an historic summer community, for a person with significant potential as a church leader. We are seeking an intern with personal initiative, self-direction, and a passion for community-building.

Dates: June – August or early September, 13 weeks (Slight flexibility as to start and end dates)
Hours: 33 hours/week
Rate: $15 per hour
Housing: Housing is provided; an efficiency apartment with a bath and kitchenette.

Responsibilities:

Assist in coordinating MVCMA Sunday services (one weekly); welcome visiting clergy and congregants; manage the calendar of volunteers; edit and transfer our live streamed services to our website and YouTube Channel; organize/edit the weekly worship bulletin.

Serve as the MVCMA liaison with the visiting clergy person who arrives each week to lead our worship services. Communicate prior to coming and greet them upon arrival, assist in their work, and help ensure they have a positive experience.

Attend weekly Office program meetings

Assist in weekly Bible Studies, which are led by either the visiting preacher or by the intern.

Work to grow attendance at our services and programs through creative use of media: oversee Spiritual Life events on MVCMA website, YouTube Channel, and Instagram; coordinate advertising with local papers and websites; distribute event posters; work to expand our media reach.

Lead and organize a “Good Shepherd Program,” reaching out to residents who are in need of a friendly visit.

Provide informal outreach to residents in general, growing relationships among neighbors, and connecting residents to our programming.

Provide fresh ideas and insights to the Spiritual LIfe Committee about how we may better serve the spiritual growth of our community.

Such other Spiritual Life responsibilities may from time to time be assigned by the General Manager or Spiritual Life Chairperson.
Qualifications:

strong faith and the desire to share God's love by ministering to the community

graduate work towards an M.Div. or related degree; intention to enter the ministry strongly preferred

strong writing, editing, and proofreading abilities; the basic skills necessary to lay-out print advertisements and bulletins for our worship services
