Zachary Bennoui-Taibi Trio
Zachary Bennoui-Taibi is an 8 year blind piano prodigy currently residing in the Boston
area. He is quickly gaining recognition having already performed his own solo piano
concert at the Steinway Factory and more recently making his recording debut at WGBH FM
Studios in Boston. The 3 songs above:"The Night Owl", "Ballade" and
"Echo Logic" are Zach originals. They were in fact spontaneous improvisations he
did in the studio, all first takes! Just a glimpse into his potential as a writer and
performer. Blind from birth, Zach's mother knew he had a special musical gift when she
heard him playing melodies from her Edith Piaf records before he was even 3 years old! By
the age of 7 he was already known at local jam sessions around town, when legendary Jazz
pianist Joanne Brackeen heard him playing she ran up to the piano bench and joined him in
a four hand excursion - said she just couldn't resist!
Harvey Diamond & Hanna Rose
Pianist Harvey Diamond has been one of the unsung heroes of the Boston jazz scene since
the 1960s. HG was among Lennie Tristano's last students in the 1970s, and has done concert
appearances accompanying Sheila Jordan and Art Farmer. He has been teacher and mentor to
generations of Boston-area musicians.
Hanna Rose is quickly gaining fans in the Boston area for her sultry and passionate
delivery of torch songs at local nightclubs. Her void is warm and angelic and she arouses
deep emotions with her delivery of romantic ballads and slow paced swing standards from
the great jazz era of the 1930's and 40's. She is a young performer
whose sweet and wistful delivery exhibits a
mature emotional directness and depth that belies her youthfulness. She
has has the potential to break into the jazz scene like a Norah Jones or Diana
Krall.
Yoko Miwa Trio
Since her arrival in the United States, Japanese improviser, Yoko Miwa has earned a
reputation for being one of the more lyrical, melodic and accessible pianists in the Jazz
world. Miwa has been based in Boston since 1996 and has become a part on the city's
thriving jazz scene with her trio, which has become a fixture at the city's top jazz
venues and has been a house band at Ryles (a well known jazz club in Cambridge, MA), since
2002. Jazzis Magazine says "Pianist Yoko Miwa displays unpretentious melodies,
elegant phrasing, and lyrical sensibility of a jazz poet."
James Merenda's
Masked Marvels
Since 1998 James has been leading the Masked
Marvels, assembling an ever expanding core of energetic and razor-sharp
musicians, ranging from six to nin pieces, to showcase the masterworks of
legendary bassist/composer Charles Mingus. James and the Masked Marvels
break open Mingus compositions and bring them to life, without treating them
as something to be seen and not touched. Instead, they use them as a launch
pad for innovative and incendiary improvosation.
