Bible Study
This popular artist is known for his collections of moving music, witty humor, and
insightful monologues. He combines acoustic guitar, keyboards and singing with
a story-telling style that has been compared to that of Garrison Keillor, the radio
humorist from 'Lake Wobegon.' Ed began his career in the early 60's, singing
in folk groups while in high school and college. Since then he has made over 7000 solo
appearances in every region of the country. Today, his primary area of work is the
south-eastern and south-central US. He records for the independent folk label,
Fly-By-Night Music and his recordings are available at his performances and on this web
site.
Ed grew up in China, Korea and Japan, where his parents were missionaries. He
attended college and seminary in the United States, and following graduate school, Ed
served as a United Methodist minister in Atlanta, Georgia. As his gifts for
teaching and performing became more widely known, he began to travel the country as a
musician and spiritual resource person. In 1973, he moved west into the Rocky
Mountains where he continued his career as a solo artist and then as the lead singer for
the Colorado folk-band, White Rock. In the late 70's, Ed returned to the
South, finally settling in South Carolina. For the last 20 years, he has been
appearing in concert and in worship as a performing and teaching resource in secular
settings, as well as at the churches, universities, and conference/retreat centers of the
United Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Lutheran, Baptist and Catholic traditions.
Ed's wife, Kathleen, is a United Methodist minister. She is the director of
the Masters Of Arts In Christian Education program for Pfeiffer University.
They make their home, with their daughters Jenny, Amanda & Brooke, in the country near
Rock Hill, South Carolina, a few miles south of Charlotte, North Carolina.
